The best front doors for security — what to specify
Front doors are the most visible barrier on your home. The slab matters less than the lock and the glass. Here's the spec we'd fit on our own house.
The spec we recommend
44mm composite slab with steel reinforcement and timber core.
Brisant Ultion 3-star TS007 anti-snap, anti-bump, anti-drill cylinder.
Hook-and-bolt multi-point lock with minimum 5 locking points, Secured by Design accredited.
Hinge bolts on the hinge side.
Laminated inner pane on any glazed panel or side light.
Letterbox positioned away from the lock (or fitted with an anti-fishing cowl).
Why composite beats uPVC for front doors
A composite slab won't flex or split under a kick. uPVC can be forced if the lock and hinges aren't to the latest spec.
Composite slabs also resist the saw and pry attacks that target the meeting edge on uPVC doors.
For the rear of the house uPVC is fine — but the front of the house gets the kerbside attention, so the slab matters more.
Glass and side panels
Laminated glass holds together when smashed. Toughened glass shatters and falls out — letting an intruder reach the lock from outside.
If your door has a side panel, that's typically the weak point. Always laminated, always reinforced.
What we fit as standard
Our composite front doors are PAS 24 tested as standard, with a 44 to 48mm solid core, multi-point locking and a toughened glazing option. They start from £1,099 fitted. uPVC front doors start from £799, and a PAS 24 specification is available as an upgrade.
The door is only as strong as its fitting, so our own fitters fix and pack the frame properly rather than foaming it loosely into place. Every door carries a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee.
