How to compare glazing quotes without being misled
Window quotes are deliberately hard to compare. Here's the 10-point checklist that puts every quote on the same footing — so you can pick the genuinely best value, not just the lowest headline number.
The 10 line items every quote must show
1) Energy rating (A, A+, A++) — must be stated in writing.
2) Sealed unit specification (28mm, warm-edge spacer, argon-filled).
3) Frame colour, profile system and reinforcement type.
4) Opening configuration per window (which open, which fixed).
5) Cylinder grade on any glazed door (1-star, 3-star).
6) Glazing type — laminated, toughened, acoustic.
7) Removal and disposal of existing windows.
8) Making good (plaster, paint, silicone seal).
9) FENSA or Certass certification.
10) Insurance-backed guarantee details and underwriter.
Common tricks to watch for
'From' prices that double once specified properly.
Headline 50% discount that's applied to an inflated start price.
Subcontracted fitting hidden behind a national brand.
Quotes that don't list the cylinder grade — almost always 1-star.
Finance deals that quietly add 12–18% to the cash price.
Questions to ask every company
Ask who will actually fit the windows: the company's own team or a subcontractor. Ask whether the price includes removing and disposing of the old frames, making good the plaster and sealing inside and out. Ask what the guarantee covers and whether it is insurance-backed.
Our quotes are free, in writing, and include all of the above. We use our own fitters, never subcontractors, and every job carries a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee. If you already hold a genuine like-for-like quote from the last 14 days, we will beat it.
