What does a composite door cost fitted?

Composite door prices online run from under six hundred pounds to well over two thousand for what appears to be the same door. The gap is not margin, it is specification, and almost all of it is invisible once the door is hung. This guide names the components that separate the two ends of that range.

    The short answer

From £1,099 fully fitted, which covers the doorset, a TS007 3 star cylinder, removal of the old door, disposal, making good and the 10 year insurance-backed guarantee. There is also a fixed £1,099 fitted offer running on selected composite doors.

    What is in the price

A fitted composite door price should contain the slab, the frame, the cylinder, the fitting labour, the removal and disposal of the old door, the sealing and making good, and the guarantee paperwork. If any of those sit outside the number, it is not a fitted price.

Our specification is a 70mm solid core, a PAS 24 tested frame, a TS007 3 star anti snap cylinder and laminated glass in any glazed panel. Those are included rather than offered as upgrades, which is why our starting figure sits where it does.

    • 70mm solid core slab with a GRP skin
    • Reinforced, PAS 24 tested frame replaced with the door
    • TS007 3 star anti snap cylinder
    • Laminated glass in any glazed panel
    • Removal, disposal, sealing and making good
    • 10 year insurance-backed guarantee, transferable

What pushes a composite door above the starting price

Size and configuration first. A door with a side panel, a top light or an oversized opening is a bigger frame and more glass, and it costs accordingly. Glass design is second, because a decorative or leaded panel is a made item in its own right.

Then furniture and colour. A dual colour door, a heritage shade or a full suite of matching ironmongery all add. None of them change how the door performs, which is worth remembering when comparing two quotes with different specifications.

What a very cheap composite door leaves out

Usually the core, the frame or the cylinder, and often two of the three. A 44mm skinned slab with a foam filling is a different product to a 70mm solid core, and it behaves differently in weather and under attack.

The other common omission is the frame itself. A slab fitted into the existing frame keeps the old keeps and hinge fixings, so no part of the security specification is actually certified on your house.
