Why double glazing are specified the way they are

Double glazing has been standard for so long that the conversation has moved on from whether to have it to what is inside it. Two windows quoted at very different prices can both be described as double glazed and be genuinely different products, and the difference sits in the spacer bar, the gas fill, the coating and the frame around them.

The specification we fit as standard

Two panes separated by a warm edge spacer bar, argon filled, with a low emissivity coating on the inner face of the outer pane that reflects room heat back inside. Laminated options on accessible openings, internally beaded so the unit cannot be lifted out from the street, and toughened glass where the regulations require it near doors and low sills.
