Window types we fit across Leicester and Leicestershire
Nearly every window quote a homeowner receives describes the same thing in different language, so comparing them is close to impossible without knowing what the words mean. This section sets out each window type we fit, what it is actually made of, what it does well and where it is the wrong choice.
The prices are real starting points for a fitted job, not headline figures with the fitting removed. A-rated glass, warm edge spacers and multi point locking are included at the from price rather than sold back to you as an upgrade.

uPVC Windows
From £450 fully fitted
The default replacement for most homes: multi chamber plastic frames that hold heat well, cost less than aluminium and never need painting.
Casement Windows
From £450 fully fitted
Side or top hung on friction hinges, opening outwards. The most common window in British housing and the easiest to get right or wrong on sightlines.
Flush Casement Windows
From £520 fully fitted
A casement whose sash sits level with the frame rather than standing proud, which is how a timber window looked before plastic copied it badly.
Sash Windows
From £780 fully fitted
Vertically sliding, counterbalanced, and the only window that keeps a Victorian or Edwardian elevation reading correctly from the street.
Bay and Bow Windows
From £1,850 fully fitted
A structural window, not just a wide one. The bay frame often helps carry the wall above it, which is why this job is as much about the head as the glass.
Aluminium Windows
From £890 fully fitted
Thin frames and more glass. Where uPVC needs bulk to be rigid, aluminium gets strength from the metal, so the sightline can be very slim.
Double Glazing
From £450 fully fitted
Two panes with a sealed gas filled cavity. The default and, for the great majority of local homes, still the correct answer.
Triple Glazing
From £610 fully fitted
Three panes, two cavities. Worth it for specific rooms and specific houses, and oversold as a blanket upgrade almost everywhere else.
Choosing between them without guessing
Start with the room rather than the catalogue. A first floor window you cannot reach from outside points to tilt and turn. A period front elevation points to flush casement or sliding sash. A rear extension where the glass is the whole point argues for aluminium. Everything else, in most local houses, is a well specified uPVC casement.
Then decide the glass separately from the frame. Acoustic laminate for a main road, solar control for a south facing room that overheats, obscure for a bathroom. Those choices change how a room feels far more than the letter on the energy label does.
