What a tilt and turn window costs, and why prices vary
Short answer
Our tilt and turn windows start from £560 per window fully fitted, against £450 for a standard uPVC casement. Most fitted tilt and turn windows land somewhere between £500 and £950 each. The size of the sash, the glass, the colour and whether the window must work as a fire escape are what move a quote around that range.
Why a tilt and turn costs more than a casement
A tilt and turn sash does two jobs. Turn the handle one way and it tips inward from the bottom for ventilation; turn it further and the whole sash swings into the room like a door. That needs a heavier gear mechanism running round the sash, stronger hinges at top and bottom, and a stiffer frame to carry a sash that opens inward. The extra hardware is most of the price gap over a standard casement.
The payback is practical rather than cosmetic. You can clean the outside glass from inside, which matters on upper floors and flats, and the tilt position gives secure ventilation with the sash still locked into the frame.
The factors that move the price
When two tilt and turn quotes look far apart, one of these is usually the reason.
- Sash size: bigger sashes need heavier hinges and thicker glass, and there is a maximum weight the hardware can carry.
- Glass: standard A rated double glazing, triple glazing, acoustic laminated glass for a busy road or obscure glass for a bathroom all price differently.
- Colour: white is the baseline; foils, woodgrains and dual colour frames add to it.
- Fire escape: an upstairs bedroom may need an opening large enough to meet escape rules, which sets a minimum clear size.
- Clearance inside: because the sash opens into the room, blinds, sills and radiators must be allowed for, and that can change the design.
- Access: a window above a conservatory roof or at height may need extra equipment on the day.

Mixing window types to control the total
Few houses need tilt and turn in every opening. The usual approach is to put them where the inward opening earns its keep, typically upstairs where outside cleaning is hard and in rooms that need a large escape opening, and to use standard casements elsewhere. On a whole house that choice changes the final figure more than colour or hardware does.
